We are a member of the Hill & Dale District Garden Clubs and in turn, also of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs. There are 14 districts in Washington State with over 130 Garden Clubs. Plus we have a State Convention every year. The Mission Statement of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. is to provide education, resources and national networking opportunities for its members to promote the love of gardening, floral design, civic and environmental responsibility.
If you enjoy gardening and anything involving flowers, landscaping or crafting and designing all things floral, we are a club you will enjoy! We have monthly meetings September through June and District meetings 4 times a year. Our club meetings are held the 3rd Monday of each of those months from 10 am to 2 pm and you are certainly welcome! The dues are very affordable at only $12 a year. No one needs to be a master at any of the above - just have a love and appreciation of the beauty around us.
There are many activities in which you may participate. We help at the Floral Building at the Pierce County Fair in Graham every August, providing clerks for the entries for judging, hostessing and helping with the children's planting table. Be sure to bring all the little ones and get their interest in gardening started!
We decorate a room at the beautiful, historic Meeker Mansion every year in Puyallup for Christmas and maintain a Memorial Garden at Central Avenue elementary school. We have an annual plant sale yearly also, right before Mother's Day.
At our meeting in December we have our annual potluck luncheon, socializing and some fun games. In June we meet at one of the member's homes and have a short meeting, potluck lunch then roam around to see whatever beauty they have growing.
We were recently involved in the plantings of Rain Gardens in a neighborhood in Puyallup, which is a great conservation project. And we helped plant over 500 bulbs at the Soldiers Home in Orting. There is always something to keep you busy!
You know those flowers in your yard when you buy or rent a new place and you have no idea what they are? Well guess what! These women can help you find out what they are and how to add more to make for a wonderful yard. It's like hanging out with your favorite Aunt or Grandmother. So while your husband is gone, and your kids are in school, come join us for a grown-up playdate. Grab your girlfriend, sister, mom or whomever and join us. Hope to meet you soon.
